ArcheAge Chronicles Crafting Guide

Crafting is in ArcheAge Chronicles Early Access, and it is tied to character growth and the player economy. Start by buying the four gathering tools from the vendor at the Wayfaring Camp, just outside the starting area, then gather everything you pass. Press O to open the crafting menu and see your recipes.

Step 1: Buy Your Gathering Tools

Right outside the starting zone, the Wayfaring Camp has a vendor selling all four gathering tools. Buy them early, because they let you collect every material you need to start crafting. Better gathering tools can be crafted later.

Resources are found almost everywhere. Trees, rocks, berries, plants, coral and animals you can skin all give materials.

  • Woodcutting: trees
  • Mining: stone and ore
  • Foraging: berries and herbs
  • Skinning: animals
  • Underwater: coral

Step 2: Open the Crafting Menu

Press O to open the crafting menu. Press X on any recipe to see its details and stats. The demo also taught cooking healing potions, which is a good first recipe to try.

The categories seen in the demo are listed below. More may appear as XLGAMES expands life skills during Early Access.

  • Food and cooking
  • Mixtures: alchemy-like additives used by higher material tiers
  • Wood and lumber
  • Smelting: stone and metal work
  • Smithing: weapons
  • Gear, glider parts, better gathering tools and backpacks

How Material Tiers Work

Materials chain together. The standard tier needs nothing extra, the second tier needs the first tier, and the third tier needs the second. For example, fine lumber needs a standard additive.

Plan ahead by stockpiling lower-tier materials before you try higher-tier recipes. Mixtures in particular feed into many other recipes.

Crafting Your Weapon and Gear

In the demo, one of your class's weapons dropped and the other could be crafted. Testers crafted weapons such as a Mage staff themselves. You can also craft glider parts, backpacks and better gathering tools.

Gear comes in uncommon, rare, epic and legendary rarities, and higher tiers generally weigh more. Weight affects stamina costs, so check your equip load; see the builds guide.

Rare Recipes and Tempering

Rare recipes drop from treasure chests and field bosses. Chests open once per character, and field bosses also drop gear, accessories and materials you can't get anywhere else.

Gear can be upgraded through tempering. Dungeons drop tempering materials; see the dungeon guide.

Crafting and the Economy

XLGAMES ties crafting to character growth and the player economy. Trading supplies the materials crafting needs, and trade goods travel by wagon or cart to other regions. The trading guide explains that link.

The 2024 reveal promised a player-driven economy with homes and crafting professions. The Xbox Store also mentions learning recipes and trading with other players.

What's Coming Next

Steam lists expanded life skills as a goal for full release, and XLGAMES plans more life and community content during Early Access. New professions or recipes may arrive with updates.

Fishing is not confirmed; see fishing. Housing is in Early Access, and you can decorate your home; see housing.

Gathering Tips

Gather as you quest instead of making separate farming trips. Materials sit almost everywhere, from trees and rocks to berry bushes and animals. Underwater coral is also a resource, but your stamina doubles as your breath there.

Open every chest you find, since each opens once per character and can hold rare recipes. Field bosses drop materials you can't get anywhere else, so they are worth fighting in a group.

Crafting Checklist for New Players

Use this order in your first hours so crafting supports your leveling instead of slowing it down.

  • Buy all four gathering tools at the Wayfaring Camp
  • Gather wood, ore, berries and hides while questing
  • Press O and cook healing potions first
  • Stockpile standard-tier materials and mixtures
  • Craft the class weapon that doesn't drop
  • Upgrade to better gathering tools and a bigger backpack
