1. Choose by Weapon, Not Class Name
There are four classes with two weapons each. The two weapons in one class can feel completely different, so try both before switching class. You can swap weapons mid-fight.
Classes are gender-locked at launch: Warrior and Berserker are male, and Ranger and Mage are female. The classes guide describes every weapon, and character creation covers the lock.
2. Learn the Combat System
Combat is action-based with no tab-targeting, though a lock-on exists. Light and heavy combos sit on the two mouse buttons, and controllers are supported on Steam. You can also dodge, block and parry, and on most weapons a successful parry leads into a counterattack.
Attacks and dodges both cost stamina (SP). If you run out, you can't dodge, so never empty the bar mid-combo. Watch for red attacks, which are unblockable and must be dodged. Testers say combat takes an hour or two to click.
3. Level Through Quests, Not Mob Grinding
Most experience comes from quests, discoveries and points of interest. Monster kills give much less. A skipped quest or an unexplored ruin is worth more than farming a camp of wolves.
Start by following the opening story quest and finishing the tutorial. Exploration also unlocks combat progression, which many players miss. The leveling guide goes deeper.
4. Spend Stat Points Every Level
Each level gives stat points (3 per level in the demo) to place in Strength, Agility, Constitution, Intelligence, Talent or Endurance. One tester's simple spread was 2 points into the main stat and 1 into Endurance. Endurance helps with stamina, which you will burn constantly.
The character screen previews changes before you confirm. See the builds guide for what each stat does.
5. Hunt Raeven's Coilstones
Trait points don't come from leveling. They come from Raeven's Coilstones, which bosses guard throughout the world. Defeat the boss, then break the stone.
Trait points unlock your weapon's deeper combos, and each weapon has its own tree. If a Coilstone boss is too hard, explore and come back stronger.
6. Use Nui Tears and Nui Statues
Collect Nui Tears as you explore and turn them in at Nui Statues for more maximum HP. The first upgrades are cheap, and later ones cost more. Nui Tears only show as a stone icon when you're close.
Nui Statues are also checkpoints and fast-travel points. They let you refill your utility pouch, too, and they are where you switch between normal and PvP channels.
7. Open Every Chest and Explore
Chests open once per character, so nobody can take yours. Some sit behind waterfalls. Chests can hold gear and rare recipes.
The map has no quest markers. Some NPCs leave footstep hints, and quests can start just by finding a location. The map guide explains more.
8. Buy Your Gathering Tools and Earn the Glider
At the Wayfaring Camp, just outside the starting area, a vendor sells all four gathering tools. Buy them early so you can collect wood, ore, plants and hides as you go. Press O to open the crafting menu and see recipes; see crafting.
The glider can't be bought. You earn it through quests. It opens up shortcuts, and it is needed for some hidden spots.
9. PvP Is Optional and Groups Help
Standard channels don't allow player attacks. You opt into PvP by moving to a Conflict channel at a Nui Statue, so learn your weapon first. See the PvP guide.
Parties hold up to four players. Dungeons can be run solo or in a party, and field bosses are easier with others. The dungeon guide covers boss mechanics.
10. Understand Channels and Servers
Zones are split into channels of about 100 players, and the game places you in one. If a friend lands in a different channel, you can hop over to join them. Parties now stay together across Peace and Conflict channels.
Your server region is picked automatically from your location. Servers are in the US, EU West, Brazil and Asia; see the Early Access guide.
11. Know the Early Access Limits
There is no healer weapon in Early Access, so carry potions and learn your defensive moves. Classes are gender-locked at launch, and each class has two of its eventual three weapons. Balance is still being tuned.
Demo progress was wiped, so everyone starts fresh on November 3, 2026. The main quests alone take more than 10 hours per region, so there is no need to rush.
